Justice for the 96 |
South
Yorkshire Police is to reopen investigations into the force's conduct over the
1989 Hillsborough disaster and its aftermath. The force is apparently considering
referring itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). This
follows the publication of the a report produced by the Hillsborough Independent Panel (on
Wednesday) which found officers changed
statements and tried to blame Liverpool fans for the crush in 1989 which killed
96 people. This is the least that should be done, this is the correct thing to
do, but, it is not good enough, there needs to be fully independent
investigation that should not prevent or prejudice any prosecution of any individuals
within the Police Service who were involved in this appalling injustice.
